*If your child is using a homework pass can you remind them to write that in their homework copies or wherever they are doing homework so that when I'm correcting I know why they didn't do that part.
English Reading: Ch 15. Under the Hawthorn Tree
English Writing: Sheet on Ch. 15 Under the Hawthorn Tree (full sentences)
English Writing (homework copy): Children are to write an argument that Michael had to/ did not have to kill Animals in Under The Hawthorn Tree.
Structure of Argument: Introduction paragraph, Two paragraphs with arguments and evidence to back them up and a conclusion paragraph.
Introduction:
- Describe Michael.
- Describe Under The Hawthorn Tree.
- Explain the argument (for killing animals/ against)
- "Please read on and you will find out why I believe that Michael needed/ did not need to kill animals"
Arguments:
Needed to kill: Did not need to kill:
1. Survival (food) 1. Plenty of other options. (nuts, fruit, etc.)
2. Survival (danger - rabid dogs) 2. Animal rights - who gave Michael the right to kill?
3. Balanced diet.
(children can do a counter argument paragraph also if they want)
Conclusion:
- Re-cap over the points you have made.
- Finish off writing.
